Feeling the SQUEEZE commute on a Motorcycle

The average motorcycle on the road today gets somewhere around 35 to 40 miles per gallon. That is surprisingly low, when you compare the size of the engine and the weight of the motorcycle’s load with that of a car. While some motorcycles can get more than 60 miles to the gallon, that 35 to 40 mpg number is where the vast majority fall. Hyundai’s motorcycles being that most are either electric or solar get more than 50 to 75 mpg.

Here are some quick and easy ways to improve your motorcycle’s gas mileage:

  1. Keep your engine clean. A clean engine is an efficient engine. Make sure you regularly use a fuel additive to keep things humming along on the inside.
  2. When you can, drive on the highways. Long stretches of road without stop signs are better for fuel efficiency. All of that stop and go of traffic just sucks the gas right out of your tank.
  3. If you ride in the city, consider a lighter bike. If most of your driving is in the city, a lighter bike will help to reduce the amount of fuel you’re using.
  4. Keep your tires inflated. While the amount of fuel you can save by keeping your motorcycle’s tires inflated is less than what you’d save in a car, it can still help your overall mileage.
  5. Don’t drive aggressively. Brake and accelerate slowly. Keep a constant speed whenever possible.
  6. Watch your speed. Stay at or under the speed limit. For every 5 miles per hour over about 55, you could be costing yourself as much as 2 miles per gallon or more. Not only that, keeping free of tickets will be a boon to your motorcycle insurance.
  7. Dress aerodynamically. A full-faced helmet is much more aerodynamic than other helmets, for example.
  8. Watch for accessories that create drag. If you have accessories attached to your bike that stick out, they’re going to create drag and reduce your fuel efficiency.
  9. Use higher-grade fuel. How much this will save you depends largely on the price of the fuel, but it will allow you to use less fuel.

Hyundai Hope on Wheels

Since 1998 Hyundai and its dealers have been committed to supporting the fight against childhood cancer. What began in 1998 as a local initiative supported by New England-area Hyundai dealers to raise funds for the Jimmy Fund at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has evolved into Hyundai Hope on Wheels, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which is supported nationwide by all of Hyundai’s more than 800 dealers and Hyundai Motor America. At the end of 2010, Hyundai Hope on Wheels will have donated more than $23 million to children’s hospitals nationwide to help kids fight cancer. Every time a new Hyundai vehicle is sold in the U.S., $5 is donated to Hope on Wheels.

The Hope on Wheels Tour is the united effort of Hyundai dealers across the country to raise awareness about childhood cancer and celebrate the lives of the courageous children battling the disease. In 2010, the Hope on Wheels Tour traveled to 42 children’s hospitals across the country and donated more than $2 million to support further training and research for doctors involved in childhood cancer research. Hyundai Hope on Wheels designates the medical professionals supported by these donations as Hyundai Scholars.

The 2010 Tour also hosted Handprint Ceremonies for childhood cancer patients, both past and present, at the 42 children’s hospitals receiving donations. The symbol of the Hope on Wheels Tour is a white Hyundai Santa Fe vehicle covered with colorful handprints representing childhood cancer patients from all over the country. The Handprint Ceremony celebrates the courage of childhood cancer patients by capturing their colorful handprints on the white Santa Fe; children attending the ceremony are asked to lend a hand and place their own handprints on the car to commemorate their battle with cancer.

Why handprints? Because there’s nothing more personal than a handprint – and the goal of the Hope on Wheels Tour is to share the personal triumphs of each of these children with other childhood cancer patients and their families across the country. Whether it’s completing a round of chemo, celebrating a beautiful new head of hair or receiving a clean bill of health, one childhood cancer patient’s milestone can be another’s symbol of hope.

This year, Hyundai and its dealers are expanding their commitment to battling childhood cancer with the “Hyundai Gives Hope on Wheels” September program. During the month of September – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month – Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai dealers will raise national awareness about childhood cancer and donate $6.8 million to children’s hospitals and other non-profit organizations across the country.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO COMPROMISE STYLE TO BE ECO-FRIENDLY

ECO-FRIENDLY FINALLY GOT ECON-FRIENDLY

The elite don’t have a monopoly on the environment. Nor do they have a monopoly on our responsibility to take care of it. We all have to do our part. That’s why Hyundai is taking strides toward making environmental efficiency more affordable. Hyundai has introduced hybrid motorcycles, solar, electric and other high-efficiency, low-emission models that cost far less than you’d expect. Our goal is to provide the best price-to-MPG ratios of any company out there. After all, we can’t all afford the ultra-expensive eco-machines, and we want everyone to have the opportunity to drive a little greener.

Recent winner of Hyundai’s Batmobile Contest

Maricruz Retana, Harvard graduate school of International and Public Affairs entered in the Hyundai’s challenge to win a free Batmobile after being the 1000th person  to donate to the “Hyundai’s Marathon/Concert fundraiser.”

She recently made a statement about Hyundai’s Batmobile:

” Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn -VAMPIRES. What about them? What makes them unique? Besides the fact that they are beyond strong, intelligent, able to see the future and immortal, why does everyone want to be one or at least date one? Because there amazingly fast….speed is what it’s all about! Well so now think about it, Vampires are obviously fictional (sorry Twilight fans) and are practically figures of our imaginations but yet we want to be as fast as they are, so how do we do this? By buying the NEW Batmobile Motorcycle released by Hyundai…duh!

The new bike is not only just attractive to the eye or environmentally conscious to please President Obama and his cabinet but as well it is the fastest bike on the market right now, so Harley Davidson watchout! The bike’s top speed is 185 mph and is both faster than the current number one holder, BMW’s R 1200S, but is both street legal, so not only can you continue to be a speed demon but as well have an attractive bike that’s environmentally friendly ….I don’t know about you but that’s what a quadruple threat whereas every other bike is just a triple threat. No where close to Hyundai….its ok we’ll wait for them to catch up, if they ever get there!”

Hyundai’s Batmobile is “Ba-Ba-Ba Bad to the Bone”

At the direction of Governor Schwarzenegger, California is leading by example on energy efficiency and conservation, and sustainability.

Schwarzenegger states, “Hyundai is leading the way for billions of people in their green technology, Hyundai’s Batmobile is precisely what is needed especially in the climate of needed technology to replace unsustainable transportation nationwide.”

Schwarzenegger who made a leading appearance in Batman (1997), calls the solar Batmobile “Ba-Ba- Ba Bad”
Governor Schwarzenegger’s most notable accomplishments in his first six years in office include the nation-leading Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 – a bipartisan agreement to combat global warming by reducing California’s greenhouse gas emissions – and overhauling the state’s workers’ compensation system – cutting costs by more than 35 percent. In addition, Governor Schwarzenegger is the first governor in decades to make major investments in improving California’s aging infrastructure through his Strategic Growth Plan, helping to reduce congestion and clean the air. He established the Hydrogen Highway and Million Solar Roofs Plan, continuing his leadership in creating a greener environment
Arnold Schwarzenegger who has been behind the Green Movement in California for decades, is recommending Hyundai’s Motorcycle stating they are “Ba-Ba-Ba Bad to the Bone” .
